Guidelines for Tramway Modernization in CEE and CIS
Final report Working Group of Tramway Modernization
Published: February 2010
Format: CD
| Contents: |
 |
Purpose: The development of tramway systems in Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) started in the late 19th century and – contrary to most other parts if the world – was heavily promoted after World War II. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, these systems suffered from a lack of interest and funding and therefore were not regularly maintained. However there is no doubt that urban transport systems, especially in large cities, cannot be properly developed to meet the needs of citizens without the appropriate participation of rail-based systems.
This report provides the reader with four consolidated reports covering the main aspect of light rail maintenance strategies. Furthermore it holds a large number of case studies, which provide real-life experiences and the lessons learnt by some of the most advanced light rail systems.
Readership:
This report is aimed at both authorities from cities to local municipalities and operators interested and responsible for planning, financing and maintaining light rail systems as well as looking for best practise cases concerning refurbishment of rolling stock and infrastructure.
